Detox and glow like a Halloween pumpkin!
No, really…I’m obsessed with this four-ingredient exfoliating DIY pumpkin mask and lemme tell you all the reasons why, starting with “gentle.”
Harsh skincare treatments drive me crazy (think highly active chemical peel followed by Flaky Face Friday night), so this all-natural mask does the trick for detoxifying and gently getting rid of dullness from dead skin cells sitting on the skin.
The recipe is inspired by some of my favorite skincare products that contain pumpkin, turmeric or both: Kora Organics Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask and Farmhouse Fresh Splendid Dirt Nutrient Mud Mask with Organic Pumpkin Puree.
If you love a mask that tingles or cools (it’s working!?), you’ll love the Smashing Pumpkin Turmeric Mask (Couldn’t resist that Chicago rock band reference). There’s a slight cooling effect and will leave your face pinkish and splotchy, but it’s temporary. The redness indicates circulation, and once calm, will literally be followed by an afterglow!
4 active ingredients in this all-natural DIY pumpkin mask:
Pumpkin enzymes
While pumpkin feeds your skin with vitamins and antioxidants (#feedyourface), it also contains natural alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that naturally and gently exfoliate away dead skin.
Greek yogurt
Yogurt contains lactic acid, which also makes it a naturally mild exfoliator and a good choice for sensitive skin.
Bentonite clay
Bentonite clay famously pulls toxins and impurities from the skin and it’s amazing how smooth it blends the ingredients. It’s the key ingredient in store-bought “mud” masks, such as Farmhouse Fresh Splendid Dirt. Don’t worry; it’s as easy to find as Whole Foods! Soapgirl’s Calcium Bentonite Clay is in my arsenal of beauty tricks in the kitchen cabinet for making many detox masks!
Turmeric powder
Turmeric is the torch that lightens and brightens dark spots aka sun damage, a skincare ingredient darling.
