Listen up, Skinny Bitches!
The way you’ve been ordering a margarita (“Skinny, please”) is actually a modern classic cocktail.
The Tommy’s Margarita is a variation on the classic margarita dating back to the early 1990s when Julio Bermejo began making margaritas at Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco with one less bottle.
The tweak: no orange liqueur (Triple Sec, Cointreau). Instead, the Tommy’s Margarita is sweetened with agave nectar, made from the same plant as tequila.
The genius of the Tommy’s Margarita is its simplicity. Many bartenders feel it’s a much better drink without the orange liqueur.
Agave nectar keeps things balanced and doesn’t mask the flavor of a good blanco tequila.
Bonus: it’s lighter and all-natural and became what we know today as the Skinny Margarita.
So now you know.
If you want to save some sugar calories but sound like you actually know your cocktails, order a Tommy’s!
