In a shaker filled with ice, combine mezcal, cherry liqueur and lime juice. Shake hard.
Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice and add a splash of soda water. Garnish with skewered maraschino cherries.
Party trick: Smoke the drinks
The mezcal adds nice notes of autumn smoke to this drink, but if you’ve got a cloche, let guests “smoke” their drink.
Pick up a smoking gun (the Breville is our pick), fantastic for smoking meats, chocolates, popcorn and especially cocktails.
Place the cocktail under the glass cloche, putting the tube of the smoking gun beneath the rim. Add smoke and leave it trapped around the drink for 10 to 20 seconds. Remove and serve.
