Seasonal herbs, edible flowers and locally-grown produce arouse and influence the signature cocktails at The Bower Bar.

In celebration of the inaugural New Orleans Cocktail Week—a seven-day DIY festival of sipping local libations at participating restaurants and bars throughout the city—The Bower Bar created a beautiful variation on a classic whiskey sour.

The Bower Sour by Bar Manager Mickey Mullins combines bourbon with dried hibiscus flowers, which imparts both subtle floral notes and that posh pink hue! With fresh lemon, it’s balanced and bright like a traditional sour but with a bartender’s hack to achieve that meringue-like foam (no egg whites necessary).

“The Bower sour utilizes fresh hibiscus flowers from Sugar Roots Farm,” Mickey notes. “We are taking the bountiful harvest from the fall season for a fun play on the traditional whiskey sour.”

As for technique, it gets a “dry shake,” which means it’s shaken twice, first without ice.

Raise a coupe to New Orleans Cocktail Week with a Bower Sour, the gorgeously-garnished bourbon beauty of the Lower Garden District.
